EVEN MORE EXCELLENCE FROM GLASHÜTTE ORIGINAL

Glashütte Senator Excellence

Senator Excellence Panorama Date and Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase

With the launch in the spring of 2016 of its manufactory Calibre 36 – the heart of the new Senator Excellence line – Glashütte Original laid the cornerstone for a new generation of timepieces. Two new versions have now joined the line-up: the Senator Excellence Panorama Date and the Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase. Both models take up the promise of an assured new standard of quality, embodied in the Calibre 36 inits precision, running time, stability and aesthetics – with the Panorama Date and Moon Phase as characteristic elements of the art of watchmaking at Glashütte Original.

Excellence twice over

The Senator Excellence Panorama Date places the watchmaker's well-known date display at centre stage. The secret of its exceptional legibility lies in the mounting of two concentric display discs on the same level, which makes it possible to present the two numerals comprising the date without the central separation bar. A precise jumping mechanism now enables even greater precision when the date changes at midnight.Refined details transform this useful function into a decorative stylistic element. A softly rounded window integrates the display into the dial in an elegant manner, and two subtle steps enhance, like a passe-partout, the impression of visual depth. The printed numerals are set off in deep black from the ivory coloured ground.

The Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase combines the date display with a further characteristic element from Glashütte Original: the moon phase complication. A silvery moon travels along its path, glimpsed through a softly curving dial window between 10 and 11 o'clock. The display, executed in the firm's own dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany, is a refined expression of exquisite craftsmanship. Careful diamond milling renders the elegant curve of the moon, whose gently curving silhouette is set off by a starry, galvanic blue sky.

It goes without saying that the new standards established by Glashütte Original for the Calibre 36 governed the construction of both the Panorama Date and Moon Phase modules. Both functions are distinguished, as is the movement as a whole, by an extremely stable construction principle; they also set new standards in terms of user friendliness. Thus the moon phase can be set using the crown, as can the date on both models, which renders an additional corrector on the case superfluous. In position 1 the crown serves to wind the watch, in position 2 both the date and moon phase can be set, and position 3 permits the owner to set the time of day. Thanks to its fine-toothed gear the moon phase also scores high in terms of precision: In theory, 122 years will pass before it needs to be corrected by one day in order to achieve renewed conformance with the synodic (lunar) month of 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.9 seconds.

The two models are presented in a 40 mm diameter case that is fashioned in precious red gold or cool stainless steel, both featuring polished and satin brushed surfaces. A slim bezel and a domed sapphire crystal, reflective on both sides, offer generous views of the silver-grained dial and its laser-cut, galvanic black hour indexes and matching railroad chapter ring. On the stainless steel model the finely drawn minute numerals are also laser cut and galvanized in black, while the red gold version features minute numerals printed in luminous red. Blued-steel pear-shaped hands and a filigree seconds hand render both timepieces easily legible. In both cases a black Louisiana alligator leather bracelet and pin buckle assure the wearer both elegance and comfort.

A foundation as solid as it is intelligent: the manufactory Calibre 36

The foundation of the new Senator Excellence models is the manufactory Calibre 36, which was developed with the demands of modern life in mind. Thus an innovative silicon balance spring assures extreme precision, while a single spring barrel provides a power reserve of more than 100 hours at a frequency of 4 Hertz (28,800 half-oscillations per hour). The latest addition to the steadily expanding Calibre 36 family from Glashütte Original takes a twofold approach to improving stability: in terms of rate precision, a more compact method of construction contributes to stability, as does an innovative bayonet mount used to secure the movement in the watch case. With all Senator Excellence models, refined decorations and characteristic Glashütte construction features assure the harmonic correlation of the movement's inner and outer beauty.

Tested and sealed: The promise of quality

The Senator Excellence line keeps a new promise of quality. Every one of these watches, whether three-hand model, with Panorama Date or with Panorama Date and Moon Phase, is thoroughly tested for 24 days – under conditions even tougher than those in force for the demanding German Chronometer certification test. These requirements are the same for all models in the series, independently of the type or number of complications. A special engraving on the case back serves as a seal of quality for every single watch. In addition, the owner of a Senator Excellence is provided with the most important test results for his watch in the form of an individual Examination Certificate. An exclusive online portal also gives the owner the opportunity to review individual test results and to learn about specific test procedures.
