CERTINA NAMED THE NEW OFFICIAL TIMEKEEPER FOR THE FIS CROSS-COUNTRY WORLD CUP
It is with deep pride that Certina announces its latest involvement with cross-country skiing: From the start of the upcoming season, Certina will be taking on the role of official timekeeper for the FIS Cross-Country World Cup for a period of four years. The latest season of the top-class competition series will kick off on 25th November 2022 in Ruka, Finland. It is the first stage of a whole series of race weekends where women's, men's and mixed teams will compete against each other – and where Certina will provide reliable and precise timekeeping.
Certina has a long history in sports timekeeping. For the Biel-based watch manufacturer, the new partnership is a commitment that is a real affair of the heart for a host of reasons: "Sport is and always has been a major part of Certina's brand image," explains CEO Marc Aellen. "We look forward to supporting the FIS Cross-Country World Cup as the official timekeeper from this season onwards. Not only does a long history link Certina to this discipline, we also share the same values: Robustness, endurance and precision are the guiding principles that spur us on each and every day when developing our timepieces."
The FIS Cross-Country World Cup is held annually. The 2022/2023 season includes competitions in Finland, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden and Estonia. The final will be held in Finland on 25th/26th March 2023. "We are proud to welcome Certina as Official Timekeeper of the Cross-Country World Cup Tour," affirms Michel Vion, Secretary General of the FIS. "I cannot think of a partner that more perfectly embodies the Cross-Country World Cup than Certina. Their commitment to producing only the highest quality products while protecting nature fits perfectly with the DNA of cross-country skiing."
Cross-country skiing is a sport with a great tradition that is nevertheless surprisingly contemporary – another parallel to Certina. In popular sports, cross-country skiing is not only highly recommended from a health perspective, it is also considered a discipline that is in harmony with nature. Since Certina values sustainability so highly, this aspect of the sport is especially appreciated. "We love the closeness to nature that characterises cross-country skiing," affirms Certina CEO Marc Aellen. "We are excited to experience the thrill of the competition and top performances on the cross-country skiing trails and wish every success to all of the participants!"
