Union Glashütte has a close and long-standing connection with classic motor racing. In addition to the Sachsen Classic, the company is also involved in such prestigious rallies as the Silvretta Classic, the ADAC Germany Classic and the Paul Pietsch Classic.

This year, the brand is paying tribute to a very special German racing driver: Paul Pietsch. He was one of Germany's most successful drivers of the 1930s and early-1950s. He competed in Grand Prix and was a two-time German Champion. Before his death in 2012 he was the oldest living Formula 1 driver. Union Glashütte has taken its inspiration from this racing legend for the launch of an exceptional special edition.

The Paul Pietsch Special Edition is an homage to the driver and his racing cars – and is fully in keeping with the Legends Made in Germany motto. What makes these timepieces so special is the dials – either silver-colored or anthracite-colored – with their rivet and sheet metal design, reminiscent of the riveted car bodies traditional of that era. The punchy red 12 numeral echoes the race car numbers in a further nod to the cars of old. This special edition is available as a classic three-handed watch with date display or as a chronograph for a sportier look.

The chronograph bears not only the familiar retro elements of the Noramis, such as the easy-to-use pump push-buttons, the sapphire edge-domed crystal and the screwed bottom, but also two other special features: The start/stop push-button is anodized in a striking red tone in harmony with the 12 numeral. This color accent is again repeated in the chronograph hand. The chronograph has two push-buttons and a corrector at the 10 o'clock position. The date is incorporated at the 9 o'clock position while at the heart of the chronograph beats the UNG-27.S2 with silicon balance spring for even better rate precision. The timepiece has a power reserve of 60 hours and a total diameter of 42 mm.

The three-handed design is also available with either a silver-colored or anthracite-colored dial and the 12 numeral is again in the eye-catching red. On this version, the date display is positioned at 3 o'clock. Inside the timepiece, the UNG-07.01 automatic movement sets the tone, and also boasts a power reserve of up to 60 hours.

To round off the tribute to Paul Pietsch and his extraordinary racing machines, the watches are available with a black calfskin strap featuring a striking double seam in red or grey.
